In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, the role of Human Resources has transcended traditional boundaries. It’s no longer just about policies and procedures—it’s about shaping culture, driving strategy, and enabling organizational agility. Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of growing alongside a company deeply rooted in purpose and sustainability, where HR is not just a function but a catalyst for transformation.
My journey began at CROPP Cooperative, better known as Organic Valley, in 2009. Starting in a Customer Service position, I quickly transitioned into HR roles that allowed me to explore the full spectrum of human relations—from recruitment and employee engagement to strategic workforce planning and executive partnership. Today, as the Senior Director of HR Operations, I lead a diverse portfolio that includes Total Rewards, Environmental Health & Safety, Compliance and HRIS functions.
Building Data-Driven, People-Centered HR Systems
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the opportunity to build and evolve HR frameworks that align with our cooperative’s mission and values. At Organic Valley, we’re not just focused on business outcomes—we’re committed to nurturing a culture of integrity, collaboration and continuous improvement. This ethos has guided my approach to HR strategy: balancing operational excellence with human-centered leadership.
A pivotal moment in my career came during my tenure in HR Partnerships. I was tasked with aligning talent strategies to business objectives during periods of significant organizational changes. During those times, we implemented data-driven workforce planning, integrated strategic initiatives into recruitment and developed leadership pipelines that supported long-term succession planning. These efforts weren’t just about filling roles—they were about shaping the future of our organization.
“HR is not a solitary endeavor—it’s a collective effort rooted in trust, collaboration, and shared purpose”
One of the key lessons I’ve learned is that HR must be both proactive and adaptive. Whether navigating regulatory shifts, responding to workforce trends, or managing crisis situations, the ability to pivot while staying grounded in core values is essential. This mindset has been especially critical in my current role, where I oversee HR compliance, risk management and policy. By leveraging HR analytics and technology, we’ve been able to streamline processes, enhance employee experience and make informed decisions that support sustainable growth.
Developing Leaders for Sustainable Growth
Leadership development has also been a cornerstone of my work. Through programs like Emerging Leaders, Next Level Leadership and Executive Leadership Development, I’ve had the chance to be mentored by leaders and mentor future leaders to foster a culture of coaching and accountability. These initiatives are more than professional development—they’re about empowering individuals to lead with empathy, resilience and strategic foresight.
As HR professionals, we often find ourselves at the intersection of people and performance. It’s a space that requires emotional intelligence, cultural competence and a deep understanding of organizational dynamics. I believe that our greatest impact comes from our ability to influence—not just through policy, but through presence. Being a trusted advisor to all levels of leadership, facilitating cross-functional collaboration and championing employee engagement are all part of the broader mission of HR: to create environments where people thrive.
Looking ahead, I’m excited about the continued evolution of HR as a strategic partner. The integration of AI, data analytics and digital platforms is transforming how we approach talent management, employee relations and organizational design. But even as we embrace innovation, the human element remains paramount. Our role is to ensure that technology enhances—not replaces—the relationships and experiences that define a healthy workplace.
In reflecting on my journey, I’m grateful for the mentors, colleagues and teams who have shaped my perspective and challenged me to grow. HR is not a solitary endeavor—it’s a collective effort rooted in trust, collaboration and shared purpose. As we navigate the complexities of the modern workforce, I remain committed to leading with integrity, driving strategic impact and cultivating a culture where every voice matters.
