Leadership development rarely creates lasting change through a single intervention. Constantly changing business priorities and workforce expectations make it difficult for one-time training programs to sustain their impact over time.

Recognizing this, Coach JINets Corporation makes long-term organizational partnerships the cornerstone of its coaching philosophy.

The Japan-based executive coaching and leadership development firm goes beyond conventional six-month or one-year coaching programs to build enduring partnerships, where coaching evolves with organizational needs. This helps leaders strengthen their decision-making, communication and management capabilities, ultimately supporting organizational development. This is also captured in the name “JINets” that combines jin, the Japanese word for people and a philosophical concept associated with benevolence, compassion and humanity, with “net,” symbolizing a network built on consideration, respect and meaningful connection.

Beyond executive coaching, its services span one-on-one meeting support, career and psychological counseling and human resource system consulting. Together, they embed coaching into leadership culture, advancing the firm's vision of executive coaching as a catalyst for Japan's GDP growth.

“Executive coaching is a fundamental driver of organizational excellence, which in turn supports the economic foundation of society and the nation,” says Shoji Yoshisato, representative director.

Established in 2020, Coach JINets builds on Yoshisato's nearly four decades of experience across human resources, corporate governance and executive leadership. Having worked inside large organizations in Japan and overseas, he understands the challenges leaders face firsthand. This experience gives clients practical guidance.

Yoshisato has practiced kendo, a traditional Japanese martial art, for more than 50 years and holds the rank of 7th Dan, Kyoshi. He also serves as Secretary General of the International Kendo Federation (FIK), where his coaching insights have proved valuable in managing a global organization.

Embedding Coaching Across the Organization

Coach JINets’ long-term client relationships demonstrate how its registered “JINets Method of Organizational Development Coaching” translates into organizational development.

One organization has partnered with the firm since 2020, with three executives receiving coaching each year. As part of the process, Coach JINets interviews about five colleagues for each client. Over time, these conversations have connected its team with nearly 120 employees, giving it a deeper understanding of the organization's culture and leadership dynamics.

Another client began with coaching its president before expanding the program to newly promoted division heads, department managers and section managers. As more leaders experienced the program, coaching naturally became part of everyday management conversations.

A third engagement started with CEO succession planning and gradually expanded to coaching the entire leadership team, helping executives function as a unified leadership group.

Inside the Coaching Sessions

Coaching begins with the CheckPoint 360°™ assessment, which is administered through Business Coach Inc. by Coach JINets’ founder in his capacity as a Partner Executive Coach with Business Coach Inc. The assessment evaluates leaders across 18 management competencies, including leadership, communication, decision-making and collaboration. Around 10 colleagues, supervisors and subordinates are interviewed to assess the leader's current performance, with scores and written comments providing the starting point. The assessment is conducted again after six months to measure changes in leadership behaviors.

The sessions combine active listening, recognition and practical demonstrations. By pausing active listening or withholding recognition, Yoshisato helps clients experience how poor communication affects workplace interactions.

He also encourages leaders to create workplaces where people feel comfortable expressing ideas, concerns and differing viewpoints. To support this, Yoshisato draws on his experience as a certified career counselor and Choice Theory psychology practitioner. Coaching conversations focus on actions and decisions within their control instead of dwelling on the past or the behavior of others. This shift in mindset gradually builds trust and creates a sense of safety within teams.

Sessions also incorporate Well-being Dialogue Cards inspired by the well-being researcher Takashi Maeno. The cards invite clients to reflect on topics related to well-being through guided questions. Although intended as icebreakers, the conversations often become the central theme of the coaching session, with the ideas raised at the beginning resurfacing during the final reflection.

For Coach JINets Corporation, leadership development is not a program with an endpoint. It is an ongoing partnership that helps leaders and organizations grow stronger together.
